Education for work has been identified as a priority for all Scotland's young people. It is one of the key purposes of the curriculum in all Scottish schools, along with a very small number of other important themes, with which it overlaps, such as personal, social and health education and education for citizenship.

Education for work is one of the key purposes of the curriculum, enabling and preparing young people to:

• face the challenges of life in a rapidly changing society
• live successful lives both now and in the future
• operate confidently and effectively in the changing world of work and the flexible labour markets of the future.
