About the Department

Portobello High School offers mathematics courses to pupils of all abilities in S1 � S4. Although mathematics is compulsory until the end of S4 many pupils return in both S5 and S6 to continue their mathematics education.

The department is made up of 12 full time members of staff who employ a wide range of teaching styles. They pride themselves on making mathematics fun and accessible to all. The department uses a wide variety of resources that goes beyond using just the textbook. These include interactive whiteboards, graphic calculators, videos, and mathematical games and puzzles. It is our aim that our pupils leave school with a firm grounding in mathematics so as they can employ their knowledge to solve real life problems.
